Journey to the Dark

Today I visited the land of the dead,
filled with all sorts of dejected souls.
First I strolled in the town of lights,
There I met hopeless romantics, still idealizing mortal love.
I met the naturals, people who were fated to arrive here,
and I met the shallows, whose cycle of life had an abrupt puncture.
The shallows had an eerie glow emanating from their penumbra
An indicator, perhaps, of the life left in their veins.
Life here was binary, people found the contentment they longed for as a mortal.
Just waiting for their loved ones, to complete their cycle.
Here people had faith in reincarnation, and believed the theory of Karma
I reached the end of the town, strewn with candles.
Each candle was a person, waiting, as the elixir of life burnt, and time came, for them to arrive here.

Next I moved to where the air was stale and morbid,
It was the abode of abysmal creatures.
People, for whom life had been a game of chess, and who had never respected the rules.
Their life was nothing but a crimson mask, behind which they hid their anguish.
They drank blood from saucers, and ate coins of gold.
The torture they inflicted as a mortal all came back, who says karma doesn’t exist.
The heinous sight was enough for me to go back.

I requested the custodian, it was time to go back.
As I stepped on the threshold, he roared
Beware! , for there wont be an almost the next time.
Next Time wont be a return journey,
It will be a dead end.

Author’s Note: I tried to write something on the topic “Gore/Horror” suggested by a blogger under the “Your Idea Box” page here. I think it will give some of you goosebumps ! 😲πŸ₯Ά

I hope that you like the creativity and imagination. Also, I feel that WordPress should have a story feature like social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. I have so much short content like micro-stories and haiku poems which is too short for a post but I want to share it with you guys !
Tell me your views on this and the writeup in the comment section below.

  14. This was a chilling poem indeed. No post is too short. I write very short flash fiction (we’re talking about six word stories!) and though it may seem like it’s short, they can be very thought-provoking too. So my advice to you will be to publish it on your blog. I would love to read your other stories too, especially flash fiction
